America's 6th Most Affordable City to do Business In
Regional Financial Associates developed a metropolitan area cost of doing business index based upon the major costs that vary by area and affect most businesses: Labor, Energy, Tax burdens and Office rents. These four indices are then combined to determine the Cost of Doing Business Index. The top 100 metropolitan areas in America were evaluated. In most cases, data is from 1990-1994.

Syracuse Named One of "America's 50 Hottest Cities"

For the past eight years, Expansion Management Magazine and ExpansionManagement.com have asked 80 prominent site location consultants to choose the 50 best cities in the U.S. for business expansions and relocations. We are happy to report that Syracuse has made the list of
America's 50 Hottest Cities for 2006.

The Syracuse area also scored high in another standard feature of Expansion Management. Syracuse was designated one of the "5 Star Metros" for 2006.

Preserve the Syracuse of the Past

I saw this article in the Post Standard today about an old mansion on West Onondaga for sale, and it got me thinking about all of Syracuse's old mansions, in various stages of disrepair.

Become the next Tiger

This summer I joined a golf league. Although the average age of the ladies on my league is pushing 50, I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of fun I've been having.

Every Tuesday afternoon, I throw the clubs in the car and go the Hickory Hill golf course on Route 31, where thirty or so women are hacking their way down the fairways for a few hours. Experience is definitely not needed. We have one lady who must be at least 65 still swinging away laboriously, so there is no need to feel self-conscious. I always tell myself: "if she can do it, so can I."

Downtown is "Da Bomb"

I have been living in downtown Syracuse, more specifically Franklin Square, for three months now. I moved from Chittenango, NY to Syracuse to be closer to my job in Liverpool and to immerse myself in everything the city has to offer. Since moving downtown I have been thoroughly happy with my decision.

North Side Stand Up

It’s not scary. It’s not gang-ridden. It’s not “the projects.” In fact, the north side can be a great place to live. Convenient to downtown and the mall, some neighborhoods on the north side border on idyllic. Some of the oldest homes in the city are in north side neighborhoods, and former mansions from Syracuse’s heyday and still tucked between newer homes.

Buy a House, or Two!

A few years ago, I had never even thought of becoming a landlord. I was under the impression that I’d be 30 years old and have two kids before I bought my first house. The idea of a 30-year mortgage scared me. It seemed like such a commitment! My fiancé, on the other hand, had bigger and better plans. His family had been in the real estate business for years and he couldn’t wait to get started. So we began looking around the city at properties.

Why Eastwood Rocks

I moved to Eastwood last year from the 'burbs and I just need to tell everyone how cool it is.

First of all, the slogan for our cozy part of the city is "Walkable Eastwood," and it so is! I go for walks at least four times a week and never get tired of the scenery -- cute little houses and families, unique shops and lots of trees. Eastwood is a wonderful neighborhood to stretch your legs.

Spread the Good Word About the 'Cuse!

40 Below launched the first phase of its Syracuse branding campaign at the Taste of Syracuse on June 3 to increase pride in and create an identity for the region. If you missed out, but would still like to help us spread the good word about the 'Cuse, don't worry - we will be at many more festivals this summer!
