A newcomer to the list, Syracuse is one of the many Upstate New York cities that grew up along the route of the Erie Canal, which made them wealthy. Syracuse's importance as a transportation hub continues to this day, with two major interstates crossing here.

The Syracuse metropolitan area, at No. 17, ranks ahead of those two cities on the Portfolio.com Fun Index of America's 100 biggest cities.
Las Vegas, the nation’s gaming capital, ranked No. 26, and Orlando, home of Walt Disney World and a plethora of other theme parks, came in at No. 42, according to the business magazine's web site.

Forbes released its list of Most Stressful Cities and guess what? Syracuse isn't on the list.
In fact, the most stressful cities are large, with bad traffic, high unemployment rates, polluted air and high cost of living. Syracuse has a relatively low unemployment rate, low cost of living and some of the cleanest air in the country.
